WHAT WORKS FOR VETERANS?

Local Art Resources for Veterans

There are many resources across Hampton Roads where veterans can find general art classes.  At times some of them will offer veteran specific classes, so it is good to check around.  The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) has classes for veterans throughout the year.

Hermitage Museum and Gardens Visual Arts School
The Hermitage Visual Arts School (VAS) offers an ongoing schedule of art courses and workshops throughout the year to fit all interests, ages, schedules, and skill levels. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist looking to hone your talents, the VAS and its knowledgeable instructors will provide a relaxing and comfortable environment for creative expression.

Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA)
At MOCA adults have the opportunity to explore drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, digital photography, fine crafts and more. All courses are taught by professional regional artists and educators and take place throughout the day into the evening hours, as well as on the weekends.

Peninsula Fine Arts Center (PFAC)
Our studio art school has something for both adults and children: classes and workshops—from one-day sessions to 10-week courses—in pottery; drawing; painting with acrylics, oil and watercolor. We also offer after-school and summer clay camps for children. We have something for every age, skill level and interest. Classes are a great way to tap into your talents, broaden your horizons, make new friends, and support PFAC—art is what you make it!

Portsmouth Music and Arts Center (PMAC)
In addition to  classes, PMAC also offers Individual Art Instruction for adults of all levels. Art lessons are offered in drawing, painting, and mixed media. Our six week trial is a great way to see if individual art instruction is right for you!
